![]() On Friday and Saturday, April 14-15, local vets gathered at the Oakhurst Community Center for an upbeat two days of friendship, free food, faith, gear, haircuts, entertainment, employment and resource information with advisors to provide guidance for anyone who wanted it. In the case of the Oakhurst Stand Down, and others like it across the nation, the words apply to community based programs meant to help homeless and at-risk veterans get the supplies and services needed to survive stateside. ![]() The term “stand down” is used in the military to refer to a time when spent combat units require and are allotted time to rest and recover from battle in a safe and secure environment. (CVA) held their first - but not the last - stand down of the year. That spirit was on display as Caring Veterans of America, Inc.
